Terms of Service

1Who these terms are between

trueset is operated by Shipyard Systems ("we", "us"). You agree to these terms when you create an account, hold an API key or send a request to the API. If you accept them for an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it.

2The service

trueset serves public data through an HTTP API. It currently covers Nigeria: administrative areas, tertiary institutions, health facilities, population, banks, phone number prefixes and public holidays, together with exchange rates and crypto prices. Each verified record cites the source it was taken from, the method used to verify it and the date that source was retrieved.

We may add, change or remove datasets, fields and endpoints. Where a change would break existing use, we will give reasonable notice on the site or by email.

3Accounts and keys

You need a working email address to hold an account. You are responsible for everything done under your account and with your keys. Treat a key as a password. If a key is exposed, revoke it from your account page and tell us.

4Plans and payment

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance. Starter is ₦5,000 a month, Growth is ₦15,000 a month and Business is ₦20,000 a month, excluding any tax that applies. Research pricing is agreed per project.

Payments are collected by Paystack. When you subscribe you authorise a charge for the first month and a charge on the same day of each month after that, until you cancel. Your plan starts when the first payment succeeds.

You can change or cancel your plan from your account page at any time. When you cancel, you keep the plan until the end of the month you have paid for, and the account then moves to the free plan. Payments already made are not refunded, except where the law requires it.

If a renewal payment fails, the account moves to the free plan until a payment succeeds. Your keys and account are kept.

We may change prices with 30 days' notice by email. A price change never applies to a month you have already paid for.

Requests without a paid plan are served under a free allowance. It is provided for evaluation, and we may change or withdraw it at any time.

5Your licence

While you hold a plan and follow these terms, we give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to call the API and to use the results in your own products and analysis. Storing results to serve your own application or analysis is allowed.

6What you cannot do

You may not:

• redistribute, resell, sublicense or otherwise make the data available to anyone else as data;
• mirror, replicate or bulk-extract the dataset, or rebuild it through systematic requests;
• use the data to build, populate, train or improve another dataset, directory, model or API that competes with trueset;
• get around a rate limit, a key restriction or a field restriction, including by using more than one account or by disguising where requests come from;
• share a key outside your organisation, or publish one; or
• use the service unlawfully, or to harm anyone.

7Sources and their licences

The underlying facts come from sources published under open licences (CC BY 4.0 for health facilities, CC BY IGO and CC BY for OCHA material) and from public facts about electoral areas and tertiary institutions. Those licences govern the underlying facts. We do not and cannot change them.

These terms govern our own work: the compilation, the geographic codes, the verification metadata, the schema, the documentation and the API. All of it belongs to us.

If you take a fact from us and rely on the publisher's licence instead of this one, that licence is between you and the publisher. If you rely on our compiled dataset, our codes or the service, these terms apply, including the restrictions in clause 6. You do not have to credit trueset in your own product.

8Rate limits and fair use

Rate limits are published on the pricing page. We may reduce or suspend access that threatens the stability of the service or the rights of a source publisher.

9Accuracy and availability

We check the data against its sources and correct errors we find or are told about, but we do not guarantee that any record is accurate, complete or current. You are responsible for deciding whether the data is suitable for your use.

Exchange rates and crypto prices are provided for information only. They may be delayed or differ from the rate or price you can transact at, and a response marked stale has not been refreshed on schedule. They are not financial advice and must not be relied on as the sole basis for a trade, a payment or a financial decision.

We check uptime every minute and publish 90 days of history on the status page. We do not offer a contractual service level agreement. The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows.

10Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken or a plan is unpaid. You can stop using the service at any time. Clauses 6, 7, 11 and 13 continue to apply after termination.

11Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profit, revenue or data, or for loss arising from reliance on the data, including exchange rates and crypto prices. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

You will cover any claim brought against us that arises from your breach of these terms or your use of the data in breach of a source's licence.

12Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We will email the address on your account about a material change at least 14 days before it takes effect.

13Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. These terms, with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the service.
